False Claim Debunked: Nigerian Army Denies Recruitment Advert

By Ayorinde Oluokun/Abuja

The Nigerian Army has stated that, despite advertisements appearing on social media and other digital sites, it has not yet initiated the recruitment procedure for Direct Short Service Course (DSSC) candidates.

The military also urged anyone who has details about these deceptive practices or those implicated to quickly inform the closest security office or relevant officials so proper measures can be taken.

Colonel Anele Appolonia, the official representative of the Nigerian Army, made these remarks in a statement released on Friday, cautioning citizens regarding a fraudulent job posting titled "Nigerian Army Direct Short Service Course (DSSC) 29 Application Form 2026."

"This is not genuine, incorrect, and deceptive because no such ad was approved by the Nigerian Army," Appolonia stated.

She also mentioned that the Army has not initiated any selection or appointment process for the Direct Short Service Commission (DSSC) or Short Service Commission (SSC).

The spokeswoman accordingly urged the public to ignore the ad since it was not issued by the Army or any of its official sources.

The Nigerian Army states that once approval for recruitment activities is granted, the general public will receive proper notification via official channels such as the Nigerian Army’s website, authorized social media pages, and articles published in daily newspapers across the country, alongside other reliable means of communication, ensuring sufficient promotion.

"Individuals from the general public are urged once again to stay alert and steer clear of scammers who employ false job advertisements to trick and cheat unaware people. The Nigerian Army does not require any payment for joining its forces," she added.
