Dhaka, January 4 — The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has suggested it may skip dealing with Indian officials and instead speak directly with the International Cricket Council (ICC) about safety issues related to the upcoming T20 World Cup.
The BCB executives are set to gather on Saturday evening at 9:30 PM to address the matter and officially outline the board's stance.
This action followed the mandatory exclusion of Mustafizur Rahman from the next IPL season.
Due to political pressure and intimidation, the BCCI has directed the Kolkata Knight Riders to let go of Mustafizur, raising concerns about the security of the Bangladeshi national squad during the upcoming World Cup, which will take place in February 2026 across India and Sri Lanka.
In response to questions about whether the team would be secure competing in Kolkata and Mumbai, BCB President Aminul Islam discussed the matter during a press briefing held in Sylhet on Saturday.
Aminul said, 'The ICC is hosting the event, and India is the organizer.' 'If we have something to convey, we will do so through the ICC.'" OR "Aminul mentioned, 'The ICC is arranging the competition, with India serving as the host.' 'Any communication required will be handled via the ICC.'" OR "Aminul remarked, 'The ICC is overseeing the tournament, and India is acting as the host country.' 'We'll reach out to them directly for any necessary information.'" OR "Aminul shared, 'The ICC is responsible for conducting the match, and India has been chosen as the host nation.' 'In case of any messages, we’ll go through the ICC.'" OR "Aminul noted, 'The ICC is managing the tournament, which is being held in India.' 'Should we need to send any message, we will contact the ICC.'
It is being speculated that Bangladesh could seek a relocation of their match venues, much like Pakistan, which will host all its World Cup games in joint host country Sri Lanka.
Nevertheless, Amzad Hussain, head of the BCB Media Committee, mentioned that "the ICC will determine which stadium is appropriate."
Although KKR released an official announcement stating Mustafizur's termination, the BCB asserts that it hasn't received any official notice from the BCCI yet.
